Home Training OR Gym Training ?

This is a long discussed topic which provides biassed opinions depending on which fitness professional or exercise enthusiast you ask.

If you’re a man or woman who’s not interested in building muscle and lifting the heaviest weights but rather exercising for overall health maintenance or weight loss then home training can prove incredibly effective. With the combination of timed Circuits, HIIT training, boxing with a punchbag or family member holding the pads or kettlebells and basic resistance training equipment, Results can be achieved.

On the other hand for gym junkies, busy professionals and full time parents who enjoy escaping to the gym for a little ‘me’ time, gyms provide a sanctity of euphoria, peace and personal development. After the lockdown the attempts to replicate gym results at home demonstrated huge amounts of creativity and good old improvisation. With this being said, the reality is that gyms offer a huge variety of equipment for ease of use, refined exercise programming and superior results for muscle gain and mental relief.

This being said, without a clear structure any personal efforts at home or gym become obsolete, over my years as a personal trainer You’ve probably seen many regular gym-goers with no advances in their training, health or appearance whilst others fast track to success. This screams no direction.

Without a steering wheel, how would you drive a car? It would be impossible!

The problem with home based exercise is the temptation to give up because gym atmospheres are hard to create at home, the fear of embarrassment often elevates your focus to push a little harder. Personal trainers help to maintain the productive tempo to elicit fat loss for the duration of your workouts, not just when you feel like pushing a little harder.

In summary, both methods of Personal Training are superior in their own rights. Home based exercise is a customer-centric system which operates at a clients convenience and is very effective for people who are just too busy to get to the gym or incredibly self conscious. Whereas, gyms are perfect for less motivated or advanced gym-goers who love resistance training and mental breaks.
